Belmont High School's girls field hockey team beat rival Watertown this week in what the Select Board called a milestone win for the program.

HIGH SCHOOL -- The Belmont High School girls field hockey team defeated Watertown, Select Board Chair Taylor Yates announced during the board's Sept. 9 meeting, calling it "a new feat" for the program. Yates said Watertown "has been a force" and that beating the team "has been a goal for a long time," adding, "congratulations, girls. Great game."

TOWN -- The Select Board voted Sept. 9 to accept two donations benefiting Belmont Recreation programming from Belmont Youth Activities and DARE, Inc., a nonprofit run in part by former Select Board and police officials: $15,000 for the Belmont Teen Committee and $5,000 for the Belmont Recreation Summer Movie Series. Board members reviewed a memorandum of understanding for the gift. The organization's representatives told the board it has previously supported Recreation Department programs including T-Ball and the outdoor summer movie series at the town field, and has funded Belmont High School scholarships and speaker programs on topics including vaping, peer pressure and mental health.
