Belmont's municipal rink reopens after weeks of dehumidification trouble, and the town's new fields manager is already showing results.

BELMONT --

TOWN -- The Belmont Sports Complex rink, closed for weeks because of a recurring dehumidification problem, has reopened, Town Administrator Patrice Garvin told the Select Board at its Aug. 10 meeting. Garvin said the issue "has gotten a lot better" and that the town has not needed to use a temporary backup unit, though it remains on site in case it's needed. She said the town is working with the Building Committee on a permanent fix, and that some rink revenue lost during the closure will not be recaptured. Garvin also reported that Belmont's new full-time fields manager, who started a few weeks ago, is part of a three-year field maintenance plan funded by Town Meeting, and that the town is "starting to see improvements" on its fields. Board members reminded residents not to use fields when gates are locked, saying the town continues to see people hop fences onto closed fields. Separately, Belmont Recreation's website posted notice that town fields will be closed Aug. 21 to Aug. 24.
