Belmont Community TV Airs Full Interview With Grammy-Winning Guitarist Matthew Stevens

BELMONT — April 9, 2026 — Belmont community access TV aired a 30-minute interview with Grammy-winning guitarist and Berklee College of Music professor Matthew Stevens on April 9. Host Doug Hall spoke with Stevens about his forthcoming self-titled album, due May 8 on Candid Records, drawing on critical praise from Mojo, Pitchfork, and NPR. The episode featured audio excerpts of two tracks: Alberta, a blues standard sung by Anna B. Savage that Stevens described as a "vessel" for personal transformation between recordings, and Hazy, a single released April 8 that Stevens said grew from a month of recording in Rio de Janeiro with Milton Nascimento and Esperanza Spalding. Stevens named his core collaborators — drummer and co-producer Eric Doob, co-producer and alto saxophonist Josh Johnson, keyboardist Chris Fishman, bassist Kyle Miles, and guests including Joel Ross, Jeff Parker, and mentor Terri Lyne Carrington. Stevens, who grew up in Toronto and attended Berklee before joining its faculty, said teaching forces him to become "increasingly thoughtful about what I say, how I put forth my perspective." The album's first live support date is June 5 at the Jazz Gallery in New York City.
