Warrant Committee · Meeting of October 21, 2026
Belmont's Warrant Committee heard dueling accounts of a stalled town clerk pay review and previewed a fall warrant it will vote on November 12. Former Town Moderator Mike Taylor and resident Kathy Cohen said they gathered 300 signatures in five days for a citizen's petition creating an independent committee to update the town clerk's 2011 job description and pay; a town official called the petition unnecessary, citing two completed compensation studies. Cohen said, "This is the first time I've heard that there's been any compensation study done." Town CFO Jeff Lubien said the town certified about $6.7 million in free cash and proposed splitting $2 million between stabilization funds.
Planning staff said the comprehensive plan now needs $308,000 total, up from an original $200,000 budget, after the first consultant fell short. The committee approved its October 7 minutes, 10-0 with 2 abstentions.
