BELMONT — The Warrant Committee reviewed its 2026 operations and discussed planned improvements. Members praised a streamlined subcommittee structure reduced from six to four and a new report format organized by appropriation rather than department, both introduced earlier in the year. The new format received positive feedback from Town Meeting Members and made financial information easier to understand.
Chair Paul Rickter identified challenges with a compressed budget schedule and workload demands on the Chair and proposed solutions including delegating report tasks and strengthening the Vice Chair role. The Committee heard that the Town Assessor recently resigned with interim staffing being evaluated, that summer traffic-calming improvements are planned, and that elementary schools face heat concerns requiring funding. Departing members Anne Helgen, Jack Weis, Lynn Peterson-Read, and Melissa Morley were recognized.
