Belmont Library Panel Approves $424,862 Shelving Deal, Eyes Green Roof Vote

BELMONT — June 10, 2025 — Belmont's Library Building Committee approved a $424,862 shelving contract and nearly $2 million in construction invoices at its June 10 meeting, while previewing a possible July vote on a green roof and ADA garden path. The committee voted unanimously to conditionally accept a quote from Tucker Library Interiors of New Hampshire — the lower of two bids solicited through the state contract list, and more than $100,000 below the competing bid — covering steel shelving, millwork, reading cubbies, and installation, leaving approximately $268,000 in savings against the furniture, fixtures, and equipment budget. OEA project manager Noel reported that the overall project contingency now stands at just under $1 million following approval of Change Order 9, a $15,593 bundle covering custom Library of Things lockers, a storm drain relocation, and aluminum curtain wall mullion caps on the building's prominent Concord Avenue glass facade. A $1,900,151 G&R construction invoice for May, a $45,223 consulting invoice, and an $8,700 fiber-optic installation contract from town vendor Comtract were also approved. The committee confirmed a soft opening in December 2025 and a grand opening celebration in January 2026.
