Belmont Library Committee Unanimously Restores Green Roof for $109,950

BELMONT — August 12, 2025 — Belmont Library Building Committee votes unanimously to restore the green roof, approving $109,950 while GNR Construction's schedule slips past October. The committee, chaired by Claire Centrella, also approved more than $1.8 million in construction invoices at its August 12 meeting, including a $1,592,074 GNR requisition and Change Order 10 totaling $125,460 for millwork, soil removals, and electrical upgrades, leaving roughly $812,000 in construction contingency with the project roughly three-quarters complete through the construction budget. Trustee Board Chair Kathy Guthrie announced the Friends of the Belmont Public Library would cover ongoing green roof maintenance, and that approximately $225,000 in donated funds would transfer to the project in October, more than offsetting the roof's cost. The builders risk insurance policy was extended through December 15 at up to $12,000 — the policy's one permitted extension — after the committee was told the original October 16 substantial completion date is no longer achievable, with the main Concord Avenue curtain wall glass panel not expected on site until early October and a new contractor working date of approximately October 31 also viewed skeptically by members who demanded a firm commitment from GNR within 10 days.
