MBTA Red Line Suspension Between Alewife And Park Street Begins Today

BELMONT — The MBTA shut down Red Line service between Alewife and Park Street for 10 days starting today, forcing Belmont commuters onto shuttle buses or alternate routes through July 30, according to the town's News Flash alert system.

TOWN HALL

The Red Line suspension, first flagged by the town Sunday, runs from July 21 through July 30 and affects the full stretch between Alewife and Park Street — the segment most Belmont riders use to reach downtown Boston. The town has not yet detailed specific shuttle-bus routes beyond directing residents to MBTA service alerts.

The Belmont Police Department is also warning residents about fraudulent emails circulating in town, urging anyone who receives a suspicious message to check belmont-ma.gov/BPDAlerts before responding or clicking any links.

Separately, the planned removal of a Copper Beech tree has been postponed after town crews found nesting robins in its branches, and the Department of Public Works reminds residents that yard waste pickup continues on a monthly schedule through October.

SCHOOLS

Belmont Public Schools has opened registration for the 2026-2027 school year, according to the district's website. Families with new students or those re-registering are directed to the district's registration page for grades K-12 and preschool.

ELSEWHERE IN THE NEWS

"Patch AM: Belmont's new rink shut down—when will the ice be safe again?" Patch reports the town's rink remains offline amid the humidity and environmental-control problems the town first disclosed last week, a story the town's News Flash also covered this month, with no reopening timeline yet given (read it at https://patch.com/massachusetts/belmont).

The Red Line suspension between Alewife and Park Street continues through Thursday, July 30.
