Belmont Police Warn Residents About Fraudulent Email Scheme

Belmont Police warned residents Wednesday about a wave of fraudulent emails circulating in town, urging caution before clicking unfamiliar links. The alert landed the same day Belmont Public Schools opened registration for the 2026-2027 school year and the town confirmed its ice rink, shut for weeks over humidity problems, will reopen Thursday.

Belmont Police issued a community alert Wednesday warning residents about fraudulent emails circulating in town, directing anyone who receives a suspicious message to review guidance posted at belmont-ma.gov/BPDAlerts before clicking any links.

The town's ice rink at the Belmont Sports Complex, closed for several weeks amid the facility's ongoing humidity problems, is set to reopen Thursday, July 23, the town announced in a News Flash post Wednesday morning. The rink has been the subject of separate reporting this month over the cost of keeping the $32 million facility running while it sat idle.

Separately, the planned removal of a copper beech tree has been postponed after robins were found nesting nearby, according to a town notice.

SCHOOLS

Belmont Public Schools opened registration for the 2026-2027 school year this week, the district announced on its website, giving families their first chance to sign up new and returning students for the fall term.
