Belmont Sets Vote-by-Mail, Early-Voting Windows Ahead of Sept. 1 Primary

BELMONT — Town Hall this week pointed Belmont voters toward vote-by-mail deadlines and a new early-voting schedule ahead of the Sept. 1 State Primary, the most concrete civic news to land in the past day. Belmont Patch also flagged a new zoning tool it says could change what gets built around town, while the Belmont Public Library reset the date for a postponed summer concert.

TOWN HALL

The town's News Flash feed posted an alert Aug. 10 titled "Vote by Mail | State Primary Deadlines & Info," directing residents to key dates and requirements ahead of the Sept. 1 State Primary. The town's calendar shows early voting at Town Hall on five days this month: Aug. 22, 24, 25, 26 and 27. A separate town alert posted in late July had already flagged new primary election ballot colors taking effect for the Sept. 1 election, giving voters a heads-up on what to expect at the polls.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Belmont Public Library's Kiddie Concert, featuring the Classic Groove Band, has been rescheduled to Thursday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. after an earlier postponement, according to the town's event listings.

ELSEWHERE IN THE NEWS

"How will Belmont's new zoning tool change what can get built?" Belmont Patch teased in its morning newsletter, signaling a look at how a new town zoning tool could affect future development and building projects. Details on the tool itself weren't included in what Belmont Patch made available; residents can read the full writeup through the outlet (read it at https://patch.com/massachusetts/belmont).

COMING UP

Belmont's municipal calendar shows a busy Wednesday: the Board of Assessors meets Aug. 12 in a hybrid format, the Capital Endowment Fund Committee holds a hybrid meeting the same day, and the Select Board convenes jointly with the Board of Assessors, also Aug. 12.
