Belmont Select Board Approves Foundation for Belmont Education Gala Liquor License

BELMONT — March 19, 2026 — Belmont Select Board approves last-minute liquor license for school foundation gala before closing session on land deal and police chief contract. The three-member board voted unanimously Thursday to grant a one-day all-alcohol license to the Foundation for Belmont Education for its spring fundraising gala at the Jordan Athletic Center at Belmont Hill School, set for March 21 from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Margaret Thatcher, representing the foundation, told the board that "all of the money goes to the grant programs that the Foundation for Belmont Education has." Chair Matt Taylor singled out town staff for processing the paperwork on short notice: "Not all heroes wear capes, but I suspect Pam does." The board then voted 3-0 on two separate roll-call motions to enter executive session — one covering real estate negotiations related to what Taylor described as the Claflin Memorandum of Understanding, the other covering contract strategy with the police chief, a non-union employee — and did not return to open session.
