Belmont School Committee Ratifies Teacher Contract After 19-Month Talks

BELMONT — Belmont's School Committee has approved a ratified contract with the Belmont Education Association, closing out negotiations town officials say spanned more than 19 months of bargaining, mediation and compromise. The announcement came as the town also issued a heat advisory for the Thursday-into-Friday stretch and Belmont Patch flagged a busy weekend of local volunteer opportunities.

TOWN HALL A heat advisory remains in effect across Belmont from 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, through 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, the town announced on its website, urging residents to stay hydrated and check on vulnerable neighbors as temperatures climb.

The town also reminded residents that yard waste pickup is running on a monthly schedule through October, with an updated collection calendar posted online.

SCHOOLS The School Committee has approved a ratified contract with the Belmont Education Association, according to a spotlight posted on the town's website, which described the deal as the result of "more than 19 months of negotiations, collaboration, compromise, and mediation." The agreement covers the district's teachers as Belmont Public Schools finalizes preparations for the 2026-2027 school year, for which registration is already open.
