Belmont Closes Town Athletic Fields Through Monday

BELMONT — Belmont shut down all town athletic fields from Aug. 21 through Aug. 24, the town announced this week, as officials also pushed new rat-prevention guidance for residents and three town boards prepared to meet Aug. 25.

The Town of Belmont closed all municipal athletic fields from Friday, Aug. 21, through Monday, Aug. 24, according to a town alert posted on the Belmont website. No reason for the closure was specified in the notice.

Separately, the town is urging residents to learn how to identify rat activity, eliminate attractants and take preventive steps, under a new Rat Prevention & Control guidance push from the town.

Three town boards are scheduled to meet next week: the Board of Assessors (hybrid), the Retirement Board (remote) and the Planning Board (remote), all set for Tuesday, Aug. 25. The Town Clerk's office also posted a notice on the advance opening and deposit of ballots for the Sept. 1 State Primary.

Belmont Public Schools has opened registration for the 2026-2027 school year, the district announced on its website.
