Shade Tree Committee defers municipal tree bylaw vote to July.
Shade Tree Committee · Meeting of June 8, 2026
BELMONT — Shade Tree Committee defers municipal tree bylaw vote to July for additional member review. Chair Eva Hoffman distributed the latest draft, which adds definitions and specifics protecting trees during building and demolition permits; the ordinance would require property owners to pay fees to the town when trees are removed. Will McPhee of the Department of Public Works recommended consulting Planning and Building before the bylaw advances, and requested a definition of "dripline" be added.
The committee will use the Belmont Hill School parking lot project to estimate how many trees were removed and calculate fees that would have been collected under the proposed rules.
