BELMONT — Shade Tree Committee approves prior meeting minutes and addresses tree protection concerns. Tree Warden Will McPhee reported that construction damage at the Chenery project prompted removal of pines, with three new trees to be planted for each one removed. The committee expressed concern that removals and plantings did not align with previously reviewed plans and emphasized that improved communication between project managers, the Tree Warden, and the committee is necessary.
McPhee reported planting 100 native trees with Asplundh this year at locations including School Street, Concord Avenue, White Street, and Trapelo Road. The committee also coordinates a May 3 beech tree commemoration ceremony and is advancing a Municipal Tree Bylaw draft toward Fall Town Meeting submission.
