Shade Tree Committee approves minutes, supports Sherman Gardens design.

BELMONT — Shade Tree Committee approved minutes and endorsed Sherman Gardens tree removal and planting design. The committee, chaired by Eva Hoffman with Tree Warden Will McPhee present, supported the retention of existing honey locust and Colorado spruce while backing removal of other trees at the Cambridge Housing Authority and Belmont Housing Authority joint renovation project. The design team, led by architect Marja Ilic and landscape architect Curtis Puncher, was directed to share detailed planting plans through member Molly Aalyson with emphasis on native species.

The committee set May 3, a Sunday, as the date for the beech tree commemoration ceremony and advanced a municipal tree bylaw draft for March review.
