BELMONT — Shade Tree Committee advanced a municipal tree bylaw draft for Selectboard review. The committee voted to present the draft following discussion of tree protection requirements that would apply to private trees larger than 6 inches, requiring surveyors to prepare Tree Plans showing protected trees. The committee noted that neighboring Arlington has similar measures in place.
The panel discussed clarifications needed on review duration, Construction Activity definitions, and the fee and fine structure, recommending examples similar to those used in Brookline and Arlington. A joint presentation with the Selectboard was tentatively scheduled for the evening of July 13, 2026.
