BELMONT — The Senior Tax Relief Working Group discussed warrant articles to expand senior property tax relief, with strong support from State Senator William Brownsberger. The group plans to recommend two articles to the Select Board for spring town meeting consideration: a Home Rule Petition requesting retroactive Consumer Price Index adjustments to eligibility criteria dating to fiscal 2016, and authorization for approved representatives to work off taxes on behalf of seniors physically unable to provide services. Senator Brownsberger committed to sponsoring the Home Rule Petition with State Representative Dave Rogers.
The group also agreed to investigate why state reimbursements for senior property tax relief have remained frozen since 1979.
