Select Board opens health insurance review; no vote taken at March 11 session

Select Board · Meeting of March 11, 2026

BELMONT — Select Board holds public session on state health insurance commission. Town Administrator Patrice Garvin presented analysis showing health insurance claims have grown from 13 million dollars in FY2021 to a projected 20 million by FY2027, with the municipal self-insured trust projected to reach minimum threshold by June 2026. A 24 percent premium increase would be required to remain self-insured in FY2027, whereas joining the Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission would produce approximately 2 million dollars in smaller increases and approximately 5 percent savings relative to self-insurance.

Chair Matthew Taylor indicated the Board will vote on GIC enrollment at a future meeting.
