Select Board approves shared therapeutic recreation post with Watertown, fires staff policies review

Belmont Select Board authorizes full-time therapeutic recreation specialist shared with Watertown. The intermunicipal agreement, approved unanimously by Chair Matthew Taylor and the board, will support the Belmont-Watertown SPOT program serving more than 250 participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Town Administrator Patrice Garvin also reported that retiring Conservation Agent Mary Trudeau will be replaced by part-time Tree Warden Will McPhee in a consolidated full-time position combining both roles.
The board reviewed projected FY2027 and FY2028 budget pressures, noting that the Group Insurance Commission has projected nine percent rate increases, significantly lower than anticipated self-insured plan increases, and directed staff to continue analysis. The board deferred action on three proposed policy changes affecting donations, contracts, and land use permits pending further review.
