Select Board approves oversight of March 4 Special Town Meeting zoning articles
Select Board · Meeting of February 9, 2026
Belmont Select Board votes to recommend zoning articles while rejecting a dozen parking-focused amendments. Chair Matthew Taylor, Vice-Chair Taylor Yates, and Member Elizabeth Dionne spent four hours on the March 4 Special Town Meeting warrant, unanimously approving favorable recommendations on Articles 2 and 3 while rejecting all 11 amendments submitted by Bylaw Review Committee Chair Bob McGaw concerning parking, overnight restrictions, and shared parking provisions in the Belmont Center and Gateway overlay districts. Town Counsel Mina Makarious clarified that the center overlay article qualifies for simple majority under state law while the gateway article requires two-thirds.
Public comment centered on ongoing Education Association contract negotiations and work-to-rule implementation, with Board members acknowledging Proposition 2½ revenue constraints and broader municipal budget pressures.
