BELMONT — Planning Board opened hearing on Sherman Gardens 120-unit housing redevelopment for seniors and families. Gloria Leipzig and Chuck Laverty, co-chairs of the Belmont Housing Authority, presented the project at 131-135 Sycamore Street, which replaces 80 apartments after nine years of planning with Community Preservation Act support. The all-electric development features new fire hydrants and parking in excess of current requirements.
The board voted unanimously to continue the hearing to August 4. Separately, the board unanimously approved a redesigned Special Permit for 7 Broad Street and advanced Hill's Crossing zoning amendments, creating commercial districts at six stories and mixed-use community-path districts at four stories.
