Planning Board continues zoning amendments hearing as Hill Estates displacement looms. The board voted unanimously on June 23 to defer a public hearing on five zoning amendments affecting the Hill's Crossing area until July 7, with board members Dan Barry, Alisa Gardner-Todreas, Andrew Osborn, and Steve Weinstein supporting inclusion of Hill Estates despite resident concerns. Hill Estates residents warned that redevelopment could displace 1,200 to 1,500 people, while Housing Trust member Rachel Heller argued that density and inclusionary zoning rules would generate affordable housing.
The board separately accepted withdrawal of Special Permit Case 26-10 for 248 School Street, allowing applicant Thamara E. Martins to proceed with by-right construction representing a 25.3 percent increase in gross floor area.
