Light Board receives AI system, clean energy updates

BELMONT — The Belmont Municipal Light Board approved prior minutes and received briefings on utility infrastructure and planning tools. General Manager Craig Spinale announced that the Clean Energy Connect transmission line from Canada is now operational, providing 1.2 gigawatts of hydropower. The board heard a presentation from GreenBridge Lab on a three-month AI pilot testing tools to evaluate renewable energy investments using carbon, financial, and public-sentiment analysis.
Energy Specialist Jordan Webster reported that demand-side management programs, particularly battery storage and demand response, have experienced lower-than-expected participation, with plans for expanded commercial audits in 2026. Substation maintenance at Hittinger Street and Oakley Road was reported complete.
