BELMONT — Housing Trust allocates $50,000 in HOME funds; backs zoning overlay. The Belmont Housing Trust unanimously voted to allocate FY 2027 HOME funds totaling $5,000 for administration and $45,000 to Sherman Gardens redevelopment, a project adding 60 affordable units with construction slated for 2027. Members also unanimously adopted a support statement linking the 2024 Belmont Housing Production Plan to the Belmont Center and Center Gateway Overlay zoning proposals, and directed Michael McNamara to draft a letter to The Belmont Voice.
The Trust heard findings from the Belmont 2025 Needs Assessment showing one-fourth of residents 65 and older have low incomes, with half of renters in that age group spending more than 30 percent of income on housing.
