BELMONT — Historic District Commission unanimously approves farm-style fence at 30 Somerset Street. Applicant Vincent Batteur's proposal for rear-yard fencing with square rails, dark mesh, and natural wood finish drew unanimous support from all six voting members. Chair Carl Solander recommended black locust wood for its durability and gray weathering.
In other business, Planning Manager Conor McCormack was directed to request a proposal from Skelly Preservation Services to update the commission's 60-page design guidelines, with approximately $10,000 available for the work; the commission emphasized simplification and technical updates as priorities. The commission also reviewed flowcharts for its application processes and advanced discussions of the Concord Avenue Bridge Community Path project, with McCormack tasked to convene the HDC, Massachusetts DOT, and the Community Path Committee to address contractor-selection concerns.
