Economic Development Committee explores funding for coordinator post.
Economic Development Committee · Meeting of April 16, 2026
BELMONT — Economic Development Advisory Committee backs multi-year funding pilot for new coordinator role. Guest Alan Manoian, director of planning for Ipswich, shared experience securing $1 million annually in grant funding and described the relationship-based nature of effective economic development work. Committee members, including Jeff Broderick, Marie Warner, Steve Weinstein, and Armine Humphrey, generally agreed that a realistic proof-of-concept period would span two to three years, not the single year the Town Administrator requested.
The committee reviewed recent parking improvements in Cushing Square and Belmont Center, discussed construction management planning to protect businesses during development, and outlined Town Day messaging focused on zoning progress, liquor licensing changes, and the coordinator position.
