Belmont's Economic Development Advisory Committee unanimously approved prior meeting minutes and advanced efforts to secure a full-time Economic Development Manager position. Co-Chairs Jeff Broderick and Marie Warner, alongside members Armine Humphrey, Jack Sy, and Steve Weinstein, reviewed the second draft of the Comprehensive Plan's Economic Development chapter and found it repetitive and poorly organized; the recommendation to hire a manager was underemphasized. At Town Day on May 17, the committee and Comprehensive Plan team jointly staffed a booth centered on the Brighton Street "Hill's Crossing" overlay, receiving notably positive response and strong support for redevelopment compared to earlier Belmont Center overlay discussions.
Harvard Kennedy School students produced a financial feasibility model showing five-story projects may be needed for profitability under current market conditions; Steve Weinstein will develop a return-on-investment analysis supporting the manager position, with the committee viewing a two-to-three-year payback as defensible.
