BELMONT — The Belmont Community Path Project Committee unanimously approved amended prior meeting minutes on May 13 and received updates on two project phases following Town Meeting funding approvals. Chair Holly Muson reported that Town Meeting on May 4 authorized $500,000 in Community Preservation Act funding for Phase 1 right-of-way contingency and $250,000 for Phase 2 design to match a $1 million earmark from Representative Katherine Clark. The MBTA approved an eight-day train shutdown, likely in summer 2028, to install the tunnel under the tracks; the full project is anticipated complete by 2031.
Phase 2 design coordination is moving forward with Belmont Housing Authority for the path route near Belmont Village, with Cambridge Housing Authority conducting site review expected to continue through the summer.
