Belmont Select Board member Carol Berberian defends yard waste cuts and touts a No. 2 statewide high school ranking on Belmont Journal. Host Steve Rosales, a former selectman, pressed Berberian on a decades-old override he said was earmarked for trash and yard waste pickup and has grown with inflation to $5 million to $6 million, arguing the town has redirected the money elsewhere. "It was dedicated for trash pickup," Rosales said.
Berberian said the yard waste cut predated her election and called the override issue "something that definitely needs to be looked at again." She also discussed a Concord Avenue parking project, a settled Cushing Square storefront dispute, and a Hills Crossing zoning overlay before the Planning Board. Belmont High School ranked second in Massachusetts and 138th nationally in the latest U.S. News & World Report survey, trailing only Boston Latin School.
