Belmont's new Moderator's Advisory Council met for the first time to draft interview questions for town committee applicants. Town Moderator Adam Dash told all eight precinct councilors the panel will help him screen 13 applicants for six open Warrant Committee seats, six applicants for three Bylaw Review Committee openings, and smaller fields for the Permanent Building Advisory and Comprehensive Capital Budget committees. Only two of the 13 Warrant Committee applicants, Hilton Madivu Mattson and Marie Warner, are seeking reappointment; longtime members Jack Weiss and Ann Helgen are retiring, while Lynn Reed and Melissa Morley are leaving midterm.

Councilor Mark Polillo said he was impressed with the number of candidates, and Dash said "there's probably a better process than that" compared to informal appointments made in past years. One-on-one Zoom interviews run August 10, 12, 17 and 19, public comment closes August 26, and Dash said appointments will be finalized "by the 31st."
